BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana football team spent its 13th practice of the spring inside Memorial Stadium. Head coach Terry Hoeppner and his staff continued to acclimate the team with its new offensive and defensive systems in preparation for Friday's Cream-Crimson game.
Once the Hoosiers finished working position by position, the team split into two drills involving the inside running game and wide receivers versus cornerbacks. Senior running back Chris Taylor was able to break through the defensive line on a consistent basis, while freshman running back Dennis Underwood also ran well. Indiana's wide receiver corps proved to be too much for the cornerbacks during the one-on-one drill, as the unit was able to come up with nine consecutive passes.
During the team's seven-on-seven workout, redshirt freshman wide receiver James Hardy showed off his athleticism by making several impressive catches. Senior wide receiver Jahkeen Gilmore had a nice catch of his own off of a 40-yard pass from redshirt sophomore quarterback Blake Powers.
Indiana finished practice with an 11-on-11 drill. Taylor got the offense going on its first play from scrimmage, as he broke off a big run up the right side. The defense, however, quickly responded and put an increased amount of pressure on the quarterback. Powers, along with quarterbacks Graeme McFarland and Mike Vlahogeorge, were forced to make a number of quick passes throughout the drill. Senior linebacker John Pannozzo broke through the line several times and was able to force a blocked pass on one specific occasion.
The Hoosiers will hold their final practice of the spring on Thursday, April 14. The annual Cream-Crimson game is Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m., and admission is free. Indiana University President Adam W. Herbert and IU Alumni Association President Ken Beckley will serve as celebrity coaches.
