Five Qualify for Regionals

CLAREMONT, Calif.-- Three Indiana distance runners met the regional qualifying standard in the 1,500m (3:48.21) at the Pomona-Pitzer Track and Field Invitational on Friday afternoon on the campus of Pomona College.
John Jefferson was the top finisher in the race as he finished eighth with a time of 3:44.19. Not to far behind him was his brother, Sean Jefferson, who came in ninth place overall and clocked in at 3:44.23.
In addition, Eric Redman took a 13th-place finish with a career-best 3:47.03.
A few miles down the road at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., two other IU distance runners got the job done, as Stephen Haas (5,000m) and Tom Burns (3,000m steeplechase) met the regional standard in their respective events as well.
Haas ran a great race, finishing with a time of 13:52.73, which ranks sixth on the IU all-time best list. He finished 19th overall in the event.
Burns also turned in a solid performance as he posted a time of 8:59.95, good for a 14th-place finish.
In the University/Open competition of the 3,000m steeplechase, Marcus Aguilar clocked in at 9:24.17, while Mike Diederich turned in a time of 1:55.96 in the 800m.
