Lady Buckeye: Day Two (4/17/05)
4/17/2005 12:00:00 AM | Women's Golf
"I am encouraged and feel positive about the direction we are heading," Indiana head coach Clint Wallman said. "We had a rugged second round and we started (Sunday) morning's round rough, but we overcame some mistakes early on and pulled together."
Junior Molly Redfearn led the Hoosiers during the two-day event. Redfearn carded an 80 over the last 18 holes, after rounds of 77 and 83 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 42nd overall with a 240. It marked the fourth tournament this year she has led IU.
Senior Bethany Brunner also played well throughout the weekend, following a pair of 81s on Saturday, with team-low 79 on Sunday. She finished tied for 46th with a 241. Freshman Elaine Harris also finished among the top 50 individuals, with a three-round total of 242 (78-80-84). The last scoring Hoosier was junior Katie Carlson, who tied for 70th with a 250 (83-86-81).
Freshman Stephanie Mayotte also performed well on Sunday's finale with an 81, just one stroke shy of matching her career-low round. She finished 86th overall with a 257 (89-87-81), while freshman Gennifer Marrs finished in 93rd with a 281 (94-94-93).
The Hoosiers will now have two days before leaving for the 2005 Big Ten Championship, which will be played April 22-24 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
"We are going to go back and make a few minor tune ups before leaving on Wednesday," Wallman said. "The beauty of playing at Ohio State was the fact that their course is similar in nature. It was like having four practice rounds as far as the geography and location of greens. We just have to take the momentum we had from this past week and apply it towards the Big Ten Championship."
Michigan State led the 15-team field with a score of 886 (293-295-298). Ohio State's Lindsay Knowlton was the individual medalist, recording a mark of 214 (73-73-68).
The Hoosiers will compete at the 2005 Big Ten Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com, or by going to iuhoosiers.com.
