IU Rolls Over Rams

Senior Kandace Waldthaler started things off for IU with a goal just 37 seconds into the game. IU continued its domination as the Cream and Crimson's next four goals came within three minutes of each other. Senior Krista Peterson snuck past the Colorado State defense two straight times to score her 41st and 42nd goals in the opening frame.
Colorado State did not quit, however, and came back to pull within three goals of the Hoosiers with 6:05 left in the first. After a goal by sophomore Laurien White near the end of the first period and a goal by freshman Annie Quinn to start the second period, CSU jumped right back in the game.
It did not take long for Indiana to respond as it went on a 6-0 run during the second and third periods. With 3:04 left in the second, junior Bridget McKeon took advantage of a six-on-five power play and snuck a shot in on the left side of the goal to put the Hoosiers up 6-2. From that point on, IU received goals from a trio of players, including two goals from both freshman Brittany Estrada and sophomore Kristin Zernicke.
During the second stanza, the Hoosiers took four shots and were able to find the net on each of them. For the game, IU scored on 11 of its 22 attempts.
Meanwhile, junior Claire Meadows capped off the Hoosier scoring with 5:21 left in the third period with her 10th goal of the season.
Colorado State closed out the game with two more goals coming at the 2:15 and 1:15 of the fourth period. The scores, however, were not enough to get the Rams back in the contest.
In earlier action at the 2005 Fluid Five, the Michigan Wolverines were victorious against CSU by a score of 9-5. The second game featured a match-up between the No. 14 UC-Davis Aggies and the No. 10 San Jose State Spartans. The Spartans took home the victory by a score of 12-8.
Next up, Indiana will look to improve on its record later this evening against UC-Davis. Additionally, the team will honor its three senior players, Jessica Goldner, Krista Peterson, and Kandace Waldthaler, with a ceremony at 7:15. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
