Big Ten Championship Notes

News and Notes:
***IU was the No. 6 seed for last year's conference championship, and bested Iowa, 4-0, in the first round. The Hoosiers were edged by Minnesota, the No. 3 seed, 4-3 in the quarterfinals.
***Junior John Stone finished the Big Ten season with a record of 7-1. He closed his season with an overall record of 16-5 and 13-3 in dual action. The Greenwood, Ind., native has won four matches in a row, and 11 of his last 12 tilts.
***With a win against Michigan State on April 24, sophomore David Bubenicek became the second IU player to reach the 20-win plateau. The Kromeriz, Czech Republic, product is now 20-7 overall and 16-4 this spring. He joins senior Jakub Praibis, 22-9 on the year and 18-5 in dual action, as the other 20-match winner.
***Junior Dmytro Ishtuganov has won his last five contests and capped the regular season with a 12-7 overall ledger and a 6-3 mark in dual competition.
Scouting The Opponent:
Northwestern (11-11, 6-4) will head into the Big Ten Championships having won five of its last six contests. The Wildcats posted a 5-2 win over then-No. 24 Ohio State on April 23 in their Big Ten regular-season finale.
Senior Tommy Hanus played 20 matches at the No. 1 singles spot and posted a record of 9-11. Sophomore Willy Lock has won seven-straight and boasts team-best 24-8 overall, 18-4 dual, and 9-1 Big Ten records. He played a majority of his matches at the No. 4 slot.
Hanus and senior Chuck Perrin are 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles position this spring and 5-3 in Big Ten play. Both players earned Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors this season.
Northwestern head coach Paul Torricelli is in the midst of his 22nd season at the helm of the tennis program.
The Last Meeting:
The then-No. 54 Indiana men's tennis team grabbed a 4-3 Big Ten win over then-No. 64 Northwestern on April 2. The Cream and Crimson claimed the crucial doubles point, as the teams split the singles matches, en route to the win.
