Siefker 2nd in Steeple

Philadelphia, Pa.-- The 111th annual Penn Relays officially kicked off on Thursday with junior Kelly Siefker providing the highlight for the Indiana women's track and field team. In the championship section of the 3,000m steeplechase, Siefker clocked in a 10:32.91. She jumped out to an early lead, setting the pace of the second group after the 2nd water barrier, but with two laps to go Anna Hay of UNC began to close the gap and Siefker held on for a second-place finish.
In other action on the track, three relay teams turned in solid performances as the 4x100m, 4x400m and the distance medley relay teams each competed on Thursday as well.
The 4x100m squad turned in the highest finish as they crossed the finish line at 47.71 and finished second overall in their heat. The 4x400m relay took a fourth-place finish in their heat, clocking in at 3:44.97
In addition, the distance medley relay team came in 12th place overall, finishing with a time of 12:12.96.
