BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana football team held its 10th practice of the spring, under cloudy skies, in Memorial Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The Cream and Crimson used the initial 20 minutes of practice to work on position specific drills.
The second frame of the day, focused on the inside run and one-on-one showdowns between the wide receivers and secondary. The defense looked strong from the start, hitting several different running backs behind the line of scrimmage.
"The defense was strong today and they played with a lot of passion," Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner said. "I want them to always play with passion. I thought the defense really went after it today."
Indiana concentrated on redzone opportunities in the penultimate stanza of the practice.
IU used the last 40 minutes of the session to work on first and 10, and third and medium situations. Senior defensive lineman Ben Ishola connected on a huge hit in the backfield on the first play of the drill.
Senior running back Chris Taylor broke through the line and ran over a defensive back to spark the offense at the end of the period.
The football team will be off on Friday, April 7, before holding Pancakes 'n' Pigskin on Saturday morning. Starting at 8 a.m. on the west concourse of Memorial Stadium, Hoosier fans can enjoy pancakes and sausage breakfast ($5 for adults and $3 for kids 12-and-under), followed by a 10 a.m. controlled scrimmage that is free to the public. The Hoosiers will take the field, and after a series of stretching exercises and individual drills, the scrimmage will begin at 11 a.m.
Spring practice concludes with the annual Cream-Crimson intrasquad game on April 15 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Admission is free to all Hoosier fans.
