Celebrity Coaches Announced

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University President Adam W. Herbert and IU Alumni Association President Ken Beckley will serve as the celebrity football coaches at the Hoosiers' annual Cream-Crimson intrasquad scrimmage April 15 at 7 p.m., at Memorial Stadium, IU football coach Terry Hoeppner announced today.
"The Cream-Crimson game will be an exciting end to what has been a productive spring football season," Hoeppner said. "President Herbert and Ken Beckley are two of our program's many valuable supporters, and it is an honor to have them play such a key role in our spring game. President Herbert's enthusiastic backing of Indiana Athletics played a key role in my decision to accept the IU job last December, and Ken Beckley leads an organization that represents more than 400,000 IU graduates, including 250,000 in the State of Indiana."
Herbert and Beckley will deliver the pregame pep talk to their respective team and be involved in all in-game coaching decisions.
Herbert and Beckley are each anxious to roam the Memorial Stadium sidelines on Friday night.
"Coach Hoeppner has quickly elevated both team and fan excitement about Indiana University football. I have been particularly impressed with the team's development over the past few weeks," Herbert said. "The coaches are excellent teachers and the positive results of their instructional efforts are becoming more evident every day. We are clearly entering an exciting new era of Hoosier football. I look forward to becoming a coach and calling some plays during the Cream-Crimson game. From watching several practice sessions, I know our players are pumped up and ready to show what they can do. My hope is that a record number of loyal IU fans will come out to get a first-hand look at their new football team."
Beckley also appreciates the opportunity to play a visible part in an important event.
"This will be a thrill," Beckley said. "I will not be intimidated at coaching against the president. My team will be ready as a new era of IU football unfolds."
