Hep Among Winningest Active Coaches

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Southeastern Conference recently compiled a list of the nation's top 20 winningest active coaches in terms of career victories as well as career winning percentage. Indiana coach Terry Hoeppner is tied with Texas A&M's Dennis Franchione for eighth in the nation among active coaches' winning percentage (.657).
Hoeppner enters his first season with the Hoosiers after compiling a 48-25 (.657) ledger at Miami (Ohio) University. He led the RedHawks to consecutive of Mid-American Conference East Division titles and bowl game appearances for the first time in 30 years. During his head coaching tenure in Oxford, Miami annually finished among the top three in the MAC East, and he coached nine eventual NFL draft picks in 19 years as a Miami assistant and head coach.
Although the Sept. 2 season opener at Central Michigan is less than four months away, Hoeppner and his staff have already made their mark on the Indiana program. In addition to signing 24 student-athletes to national letters of intent in February, the Hoosiers enjoyed a productive spring season. IU returns 13 starters (five on offense, seven on defense and one special teams performer), and there is a substantial buzz around the Hoosier program. IU Athletics has already surpassed its entire 2004 public season ticket sales total, but as Hoeppner notes, "that is just scratching the surface."
The Bloomington/Monroe County Football Ticket Sales Task Force is looking to capitalize upon that momentum, as an aggressive local season ticket sales campaign is now underway. In an effort to reach out to Hoosier fans, the IU coaching staff and players have made and will continue to make appearances around campus, the Bloomington community and the entire state.
