Overall, 21 previous Indiana teams have been selected for the NCAA Doubles Championship under the direction of IU head coach Lin Loring. Batty, along with former All-American and current student assistant coach Linda Tran, were chosen last year. The twosome advanced to the quarterfinals and both earned All-American status.
Should the IU squad move into the main draw, it will take part in a single elimination tournament featuring 32 of the top doubles teams in the nation. The scoring will be the best out of three sets, which is different from the eight-game pro set format used in dual matches. The draw for the 64-team field will be announced on Saturday, May 21.
Walterova and Batty were a formable pair at the No. 1 doubles position for the Cream and Crimson this spring. The tandem, currently 39th in the nation, displayed a record of 10-5 during the year and a 9-1 slate in league action. The duo owns a pair of victories over Michigan's Michelle DaCosta and Kara Delicate, who currently rank 20th in the country.
Of the tandem's five losses, four of them came to teams that currently rank in the top 30 of the ITA poll, with a trio of them resting in the top six. Walterova and Batty fell to No. 5 Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline, 8-1, on April 30, No. 29 Story Tweedie-Yates and Ana Cetnik, 8-4, on March 10, No. 2 Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier, 8-6, on April 1 and No. 6 Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson, 8-6, on April 10. After the loss to the TCU pair, the IU duo won seven of its last eight matches to close the season.
The Hoosiers will return to the courts on Friday, May 13, for their first round NCAA Regional match against Wake Forest. The Cream and Crimson and the Demon Deacons will lock-up at 10 a.m. (EDT), in Lexington on the campus of the University of Kentucky.
