Indiana To Play Duke In Big Ten/ACC Challenge

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Two of college basketball's tradition-rich programs will meet in the seventh annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge when Indiana hosts the Duke Blue Devils on Nov. 30, 2005 at 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT). The game, which marks the first time the ACC powerhouse will play on Branch McCracken Court at Assembly Hall, will be televised nationally on ESPN.
"I think our players and coaches are looking forward to this game against Duke," Indiana head coach Mike Davis said. "Duke is consistently one of the top teams in the country and it will be a good barometer of where we are at as a team early in the season."
IU and Duke have met on five previous occasions, with the Hoosiers holding a 3-2 advantage in the series, including winning two straight contests. The last time the two perennial powers met on the hardwood came March 21, 2002 in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Lexington, Ky. In one of the more memorable NCAA Tournament games in school history, the Hoosiers took a 74-73 come-from-behind victory over the Blue Devils.
In all, the two schools have combined for eight national championships. The Hoosiers rank third all-time with five national titles, while the Blue Devils rank fifth with three. The contest also marks the fifth consecutive year that Indiana's Challenge opponent was ranked among the Top 25 the previous season. Additionally, the Hoosiers have played the defending ACC regular season champion three of those five years.
Since 2000, the two conferences have combined to make 13 Final Four appearances and captured four of the last six NCAA Championships. In addition, the ACC and Big Ten rank either first or second in all-time NCAA Tournament bids, victories and Final Four appearances.
