Another Year, Same Great Results For Women's Tennis

The Hoosiers closed the year with a 14-12 record and a ranking of 36th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation poll. The Cream and Crimson posted an 8-2 ledger in the league and finished second in the regular season. Due in part to the strength of its regular season, Indiana secured its 23rd appearance to the NCAAs, and a fourth trip in the last five years.
Senior Dora Vastag and junior Sarah Batty led the way, both corralling Big Ten Player of the Week honors respectively. Additionally, Batty was named first-team All-Big Ten and finished ranked 118th in the nation among all singles players. She teamed with senior Dominika Walterova during the spring season and the duo displayed an impressive mark of 9-1 during conference action. The twosome was selected as the first alternate for the NCAA Doubles Championship. For their work this spring, Batty and Walterova posted a final ITA ranking of 39th.
The Cream and Crimson played an extremely tough schedule with 14 foes appearing in the final top-50 of the ITA poll. The schedule included non-conference match-ups against top-rated Duke, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Notre Dame. Wins over DePaul, Ball State, Wake Forest, Butler, Marquette and Western Michigan contributed to another Hoosier trip to the NCAAs. Convincing wins over Big Ten foes yielded an 8-2 record in conference play for the season.
The Hoosiers will return five of their six starters from this year's squad, with Walterova serving as a student manager while she finishes her education. With the return of seasoned veterans, coupled with another outstanding recruiting class, Loring's NCAA Championships formula will continue to spit out equations of success for year's to come.
