Match Play Next for Marek, Overton

LEBANON, Ohio - Senior Brad Marek and former IU golf All-American Jeff Overton survived two rounds of stroke play, finishing in the top 25 at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship being held at the 6,966-yard, par-70 Shaker Run Golf Club. The duo will now take part in the match play segment of the Championship on Wednesday.
Overton was one of only seven golfers in the field of 156 to break par over the rounds, closing with a 1-under 139 total. After carding a 69 in the opening round, the Evansville, Ind., product battled to an even-par 70 en route to sharing fifth place with Ryan Spears and Justin Metzger. Oklahoma junior Anthony Kim claimed medalist honors with a 4-under-par 136 (71-65), two shots clear of the field.
Marek carded a second-round 74 on the heels of an opening-round 70 and finished the stroke-play portion of the Championship in a tie for 22nd place. Starting on the backside, the Arlington Heights, Ill., native opened his first six holes playing 4-over-par before recording birdies at the par-5 17th and first holes. He grinded through the eight holes to advance to the 64-player match play event.
In the opening round of match play, Overton will take on Nathan Colson at 12:12 EST, while Marek takes to the links at 12:39 against Kyle Ramey.
