Munroe Named to PDL Team of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Chris Munroe earned United Soccer League Team of the Week honors for his play with the Fort Wayne Fever during week 10 of the season. Munroe earned the top Premier Development League (PDL) spot in goal for the week after a pair of victories over Thunder Bay.
Munroe earned his first shutout of the season, coming up with 10 saves in a 3-0 victory over Thunder Bay on June 24. The following night, Munroe made four saves in a 3-1 victory over the same foe. In the second match, Hoosier teammates sophomore Kyle Schwartz and junior Josh Tudela made contributions for the Fever as well. Tudela finished with a goal and an assist, while Schwartz scored the eventual game-winner in the 61st minute.
For the year, Munroe has earned four starts in net for the Fever. The Indianapolis, Ind., native has a goals against average (GAA) of 1.67 with a 3-1 record and 29 saves.
The Fever is an amateur Premier Development League (PDL) team. The PDL provides the top U.S. and Canadian players under the age of 23 with an opportunity to perform in a professionalized setting during the summer months while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
Munroe will compete for the starting goalkeeper spot this fall for IU. During the 2005 spring season, Munroe started four matches, going 3-1 with two shutouts. He played a total of 315 minutes only allowing two goals for a GAA of 0.57. In the final game of the spring, Munroe turned in his best performance with 10 saves in a 2-1 loss to the Mexican Youth National Team. The North Central High School product spent the 2004 season as a back up to third team All-America goalkeeper and second round Major League Soccer draft pick of Real Salt Lake, Jay Nolly.
Munroe and the Hoosiers will report to fall training camp days prior to their exhibition opening match against UCLA. The two-time defending national champions will battle the Bruins as part of the IPFW Soccer Showcase in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Aug. 19. The match is set for 8 p.m.
