Noonan Earns MLS Honda Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Former Hoosier All-American Pat Noonan was voted the Major League Soccer (MLS) Honda Player of the Week for Week 13 of the 2005 season by the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA). Noonan helped the Revolution to a 2-0 mark last week with victories over the Columbus Crew (3-1) and the Metrostars (4-2).
The 2004 Budweiser Scoring co-Champion had two goals in the win over Columbus, while adding the capper in the victory against the Metrostars. Noonan is tied for the league lead with eight goals on the season and ranks third in points with 17. New England continues to lead the MLS Eastern Division with 31 points and a record of 9-1-4.
It marked the fourth time in his three-year MLS career that Noonan has earned player of the week honors. He was selected the player of the week during Weeks 24 and 30 of the 2003 season and Week 10 of the 2004 season. In 2003, Noonan earned the MLS Player of the Week honor during Week 24 after scoring two goals in a victory over the MetroStars on Sept. 13. He won it again in Week 30 after recording his first career hat trick versus the Metrostars in a 5-2 win.
Noonan earned player of the week honors during Week 10 of 2004 when he recorded his second career hat trick. The two-time Big Ten Player of the Year scored all three Revolution goals in a 3-2 win over the Kansas City Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium on June 2.
The Honda Player of the Week is selected every week throughout the MLS season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA). Noonan is the second Revolution player to win the honor this season after Clint Dempsey did it during Week 4.
The Revolution will next travel to Los Angeles to battle the Galaxy on July 4 at 9 p.m. CT. Noonan will be one of four Revolution players away with the United States National Team in preparation for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He was one of 23 players named to the Gold Cup roster. In 2005, Noonan has made six international appearances with three starts and a goal for the U.S. National Team.
The U.S. opens up Group B play of the Gold Cup with Cuba, Canada and Costa Rica on July 7, 9 and 12, respectively. The games against Cuba (9:30 p.m. CT) and Canada (3:30 p.m. CT) will take place at Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash., while the Costa Rica (6 p.m. CT) match will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. All three group matches will be televised on Telefutura and can be followed live on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker, presented by Philips Electronics. The quarterfinals of the Gold Cup are set for July 16 at Gillette Stadium followed by the semifinals and finals on July 21 and 24, respectively, both at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The top two teams in each of the four groups advance to the quarterfinals.
