Shannon Johnson Advances In USWAPL Match Play

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After making the cut with a four-over par 146 in the opening two rounds, future Indiana women's golfer Shannon Johnson defeated Megan Godfrey, 2 and 1, in the first round of match play at the United States Women's Amateur Public Links (USWAPL) Championship. With the win, the Sioux Falls, S.D., native advances to the round of 32, which will be played on Thursday, July 14.
Johnson will square off against Ashley Grier of Hagerstown, Md., in the second round of USWAPL match play, with a tee time of 7:54 a.m. CT. Grier also defeated her opponent 2 and 1 on Wednesday, to set up the match with Johnson. The winner of the match will advance to the final 16, which will be played later in the afternoon at 1:08 p.m. CT to decide who advances to the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals and semifinals of the event, which is being contested here on the 6,047-yard, par 71 Swope Memorial Golf Course, will be played on Friday, July 15. The final twosome will play 36 holes on Saturday, July 16 to decipher the USWAPL championship.
