Under-20 National Team Remains Unbeaten

ENCHEDE, Holland - The United States Under-20 National Team remained unbeaten at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship with a 0-0 draw against Germany. The U.S. upped their point total to four with the draw after picking up a victory in the opening match of the championship against Argentina on Saturday, June 11.
Play was even on Wednesday at Arke Stadium in Enschede, Holland, against Germany as possession ended 50-50. Germany outshot the U.S., 13-8, in the match with each team putting four attempts on net. U.S. goalkeeper Quentin Westberg picked up his second shutout of the Youth Championship, making four saves in the process.
Indiana junior forward Jacob Peterson was once again one of the first U.S. substitutions. Peterson once again entered the game for Sammy Ochoa, this time in the 62nd minute. He entered in the 60th minute in the U20s' opening 1-0 victory over Argentina. Incoming freshman Lee Nguyen made his first appearance for the U.S. Under-20 National team at the Youth Championship. Nguyen came on in the 82nd minute at the forward position for Freddie Adu.
It was Peterson's 10th appearance with the U.S. in 2005 and ninth career international cap. It was also Nguyen's 10th appearance of 2005 and his third career Under-20 international cap.
Germany and the U.S. sit atop Group D with four points apiece. Each team is 1-0-1 in their opening two matches. Argentina defeated Egypt, 2-0, in Group D action as well on Wednesday. The top two teams in each of the six groups at the World Youth Championship will advance to the knockout 16. The top four of the six third-place finishers will also advance to the knockout round.
The U.S. will close out Group D competition on Saturday, June 18 at 6:30 a.m. CT against Egypt. The match will be televised on FSC and Galavision. The U.S. only needs a draw against Egypt to advance to the knockout round.
