Indiana senior guard Cyndi Valentin is currently traveling through Holland and Belgium as part of the Big Ten Foreign Tour. While on the Tour, the 2005 honorable mention All-Big Ten selection is keeping a diary for iuhoosiers.com. The following is her first entry:
We are in Den Helder, Netherlands right now. This is the second day here and it is definitely different. Last night we went to dinner at like 7:00 pm and everything was closed except a few places to eat and no body was around.
There has been a lot of adjusting to do. You also have to pay about 50 euros to use the bathroom. Most stores don't have bathrooms in them, which was funny to me. They do have a McDonalds, though haha!
During the first couple days at Penn State we just practiced and got to know the girls. They are all really nice and I get along with all of them. We play tonight at 8:00 pm against the Netherlands National team.
We went to Texel today,a little island and did some shopping. Our hotel is nice, it's like the US but it doesn't have air. There are just little things like that we have to adjust to. That and the language too! It's definitely different and people try to talk and understand it, but it's hard. It is a pretty place and I'm having a lot of fun hanging out with these girls.
Updated results during the tour will be available on the Big Ten website, www.bigten.org and IUHOOSIERS.com
