IU Men Earn Seven Swims in Finals of Speedo Zones

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana male swimmers captured seven swims during day two of preliminary competition of the Speedo Champions Series Central Zone Section 3 meet. Additionally, four of IU's efforts in the morning placed in the top-four of the event.
In the 100 freestyle, redshirt freshman Nick Walkotten posted the second-fastest time of the morning with a 52.79. That effort also moved Walkotten up to ninth in school history in the event. Rising sophomore Scott Tanner advanced into the consolation final with a 12th-place 54.33, while rising sophomore Ryan Millard will join him after a 15th-place 54.40.
Meanwhile, former IU standout Mike Payne placed seventh with a 53.42, while incoming freshman Justin Peterfish took 68th place with a 56.95.
In the 200 backstroke, rising freshman John Kevin Koehler qualified with the second-best time of the morning with a 2:09.36 effort. That feat also improved Koehler to seventh in IU's record book.
In the 200 breaststroke, incoming recruits Heath Tameris and Peterfish demonstrated the incredible influx of talent in this event for the Hoosiers. Tameris posted the fastest time of the morning with a 2:21.66, while Peterfish placed fourth with a 2:27.64.
Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Norman Ference placed with a 2:13.32 in the 200 butterfly.
