Walkotten Shines in Day Four Prelims of Speedo Zones

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Redshirt freshman Nick Walkotten shined on the fourth day of preliminary action at the Speedo Champions Series Central Zone Section 3 LCM meet at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
The Grandville, Mich., native not only touched first in the 100 butterfly, he posted a pool record and Olympic Trial cut time of 55.45 in the process.
In earlier action, Walkotten also notched the top time from the morning in the 100 backstroke with a U.S. Open time of 58.70.
Meanwhile, IU's breaststroke crew blasted the competition in the 100 breast as incoming freshman Heath Tameris, rising junior Kevin Swander and incoming freshman Justin Peterfish recorded incredible swims in the morning. Tameris registered the best effort in the morning with a 1:05.52, while Swander touched in 1:05.59 for second. Both times cleared the senior national standard. Additionally, Peterfish claimed the fourth-fastest qualifying time with a 1:07.22.
In the 400 freestyle, rising freshman John Kevin Koehler maintained his sensational meet with the second-best prelim time of 4:07.12. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Norman Ference placed 27th in 4:17.59.
