IU Secures 16 Swims in Day Three of Counsilman

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Indiana swimming secured 16 swims (five championship, nine consolation and two bonus consolation) in Sunday's finals after the last preliminary session of the 2005 FINIS Counsilman Classic June 12 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
In the women's 200 LCM IM, rising junior Kristen Bradley recorded the fifth-fastest time of the prelims with an Open-cut effort of 2:23.99 to advance to the championship final. Additionally, rising sophomore Susanna Ernst finished in 30th with a 2:29.33.
In the men's 200 LCM IM, rising freshman Todd Patrick posted the third-fastest qualifying time of 2:07.83, which also cleared the national cut, while rising junior Mike Jones earned the final transfer spot into the championship heat with an eighth-place 2:11.80, which eclipsed the junior national time. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Nick Walkotten placed 12th with a 2:13.09, while incoming freshman A.J. Miller took 14th with a 2:14.09 and rising junior Kevin Swander finished 15th with a 2:14.21. All three efforts garnered consolation heat berths. In other Hoosier action, rising freshman Alec Haley posted a 2:16.97 to finish in 26th.
In the women's 200 LCM backstroke, rising sophomore Leila Vaziri claimed the last transfer spot into the championship final with an eighth-place 2:23.52, while Ernst garnered a spot in the consolation heat with a 14th-place 2:27.33
In the men's 200 LCM backstroke, Jones picked up a spot in the big final with a sixth-place junior national cut time of 2:10.64, while rising sophomore Matt Jensen and rising freshman John Kevin Koehler earned swims in the consolation final. Jensen recorded the 10th-best effort of the morning with a 2:12.58, while Koehler claimed 15th with a 2:14.29. Additionally, rising sophomore Scott Tanner finished 37th with a time of 2:28.11.
In the women's 100 LCM freestyle, rising sophomore Annica Lofstedt secured a berth in the consolation final with an Open-cut time of 58.63, while Vaziri will join her after notching the 13th-fastest morning time of 59.13. In other Cream and Crimson performances, rising sophomore Clarissa Wentworth touched first in her heat to claim 33rd place with a 1:00.72, while rising junior Lauren Torpey tied for 44th with a 1:01.10. Additionally, rising junior Doherty Colgin grabbed 54th place in 1:01.44.
In the men's 100 LCM freestyle, rising sophomore Lee Houchin and Patrick picked up the top two spots in the consolation heat with Open-cut times. Houchin posted a 52.77, while Patrick recorded a 52.85 for ninth and 10th place, respectively. Walkotten and rising sophomore Drew Ossakow also picked up swims in the bonus consolation final tonight. Walkotten registered a 53.84, while Ossakow touched in 54.74. Meanwhile, Tanner placed 66th in 57.76, while rising sophomore Paul Sigfusson finished 69th in 58.89.
