Hoosiers Open Spring Season in 26th in NACDA Cup

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After the initial spring season release, Indiana sits in 26th place in the United States Sports Academy/National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Cup standings, as announced by NACDA on June 2. Women's tennis is the only sport incorporated into the Hoosiers' ranking. Current standings include results from men's volleyball, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's rowing and women's water polo.
Standings for the 2004-05 Sports Academy Directors' Cup are based upon the size of the bracket. A minimum of five (5) points will be awarded to any team that places 65th or lower. The national team champion receives 100 points, while the second-place team gets 90, third place receives 85, and the fourth-place team finishes 80. Consistent with this scale, IU received 25 points for its 33rd-place finish in women's tennis.
Indiana head coach Lin Loring's charges were selected by the committee to compete in the NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers battled Wake Forest, but fell 4-3 in the first round of the championship. The Cream and Crimson closed out the year with a 14-12 mark. The squad also finished the Big Ten season 8-2 to claim second in the league
IU's best winter placement in the series came in 2001-02 when the Cream and Crimson took 14th place heading into the spring championships. That season, Indiana boasted an incredible NCAA Tournament run by the men's basketball team to claim second, while women's track and field captured eighth at the indoor meet and women's swimming tied for 10th. Indiana's greatest seasonal performance in the NACDA Cup came in the fall of 1998, when men's soccer captured the national championship and women's soccer and volleyball both finished 17th in the nation to bolster IU's eighth-place finish.
