IZMIR, Turkey - Rising junior Kevin Swander will be providing a journal from time to time as he competes at the 2005 World University Games in Izmir, Turkey. The Greenwood, Ind., native talks about the beauty of Izmir and the trials and tribulations of traveling overseas.
"It is pretty cool in Izmir so far. The people are really nice and the city is beautiful. The athlete's village is located in a valley and there is a bay on the other side of the valley.
The flight in was horrible. We were delayed in Chicago for three hours, so we missed our connecting flight in Munich. That meant we had a 10-hour layover once we arrived in Munich because that was the only available flight in. So, pretty much, we left on Sunday and arrived on Wednesday.
I'll keep everyone posted as much as I can throughout the Games!
Go Hoosiers!
Kevin"
