Allen, Australia Fall in Semifinals of World Championship

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina - The Australian Young Men's National Team (the Crocs) dropped its first match of the FIBA Under-21 World Championship, falling, 96-73, to Lithuania in the semifinals. Indiana freshman Ben Allen finished with five points and six rebounds for the Crocs.
Lithuania jumped out to an early advantage, leading 26-11 after the opening period of play. Australia was able to close within six at 37-31 late in the second quarter. Lithuania pushed the advantage back to 70-54 by the end of the third before picking up the 23-point victory.
Allen was 2-of-3 from the field in 18 minutes of play. He finished 1-of-2 from behind the arc and blocked a shot.
Rhys Carter led the Crocs in scoring with 19 points, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Steven Markovic had 14, while Brad Newley finished with 11 points for Australia. Jonas Marciulis led five Lithuanian players in double figures with 19 points. Renaldas Seibutis and Paulius Jankunas had 17 and 15 points, respectively.
Lithuania will play Greece in the title game at 7:50 p.m. CT on Sunday. Australia will play for the bronze at the World Championship against Canada. The game is set for 4:30 p.m. CT.
