Hoosiers Have Solid Day at ITAs

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Day two of the ITA Summer National Championship was a good one for the Hoosiers. Dora Vastag advanced to the final eight of the women's draw and teammates Sarah Batty and Laura McGaffigan moved on to the semifinals of the women's doubles. Additionally, Stephanie Heller is in the final eight for the lady's consolation bracket.
Vastag defeated Martina Wodzinski of Bartlett High School in a hard fought match to put her in the final eight of the singles bracket. Vastag battled back from dropping the first set 0-6 to win, 0-6, 6-2, 1-0(5). She will face Alexis Prousis of Northwestern on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
In doubles, Batty and McGaffigan defeated Mavroleon and Ames, 8-3 to move on to face a tough Michigan duo of Yaftali and Sugiyama. The Hoosiers were victorious in that match, 8-3, putting them in the semis against the No. 1 seed, Georgia Tech's Silverio and McCray.
Heller advanced another spot in the women's backdraw today with a convincing over Maria Malec, 6-2, 6-1. Heller then defeated Becky Jenkins, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the women's singles consolation draw. Heller will take on Kristina Minor from Carmel High School Monday at 9 a.m.
