Freshman Jammie Kirlew just completed his first week of action in a Hoosier uniform. Kirlew has seen time at linebacker and with the defensive line, and turned in an impressive performance last week with a pair of fumble recoveries during 7-on-7 drills.
Entering week two, Kirlew is keeping an online journal on IUHOOSIERS.com of his first preseason camp. Below is his first entry after Monday's morning practice:
We woke up early this morning and all the freshmen got on the bus, drove to Memorial Stadium, ate breakfast and got taped up for practice.
We started with position meetings and then headed out to practice. We went through individual drills and did a really good job there. I got a lot of reps in during our inside run drill. I think I did a pretty good job today, at least the coaches said I did.
We then went through some more in-depth individual drills. I worked on pass rush against the offensive line to get ready for 7-on-7 and team drills, I made some good plays but also made some mistakes I have to capitalize on.
So now I'm going to check out the tape to see what my mistakes were and go ahead and correct those for our afternoon practice. Then I'm going to grab some lunch and come out ready for this afternoon.
