Throughout the 2005-06 women's soccer season, the Hoosier Blogger will feature a diary entry from different IU soccer players. The players will give an inside look into practice, game preparation, and just the overall life of an Indiana women's soccer athlete.
The first Hoosier Blogger features Erika Flanders, the most recent addition to the Indiana coaching family. Flanders joins the Hoosiers after spending the last three years coaching at Creighton University.
Erika Flanders: JOURNAL ENTRY NO.1
I guess I should start off by introducing myself. My name is Erika Flanders and I am the new assistant coach for the IU women's soccer team. I moved to Bloomington from Omaha, Neb., about two weeks ago and have jumped right into learning the ropes in the office, player names and the abilities of 29 new players. It has been a great start so far, and I have stayed very busy ever since I have stepped foot on campus here at Indiana.
The team has welcomed me with open arms and I love it here at IU. We have spent the last week training a couple times a day in very hot weather. Despite the conditions, everyone has stayed positive and we have created a great training. I can't wait until the season starts so that we can finally see that all of our hard work has paid off.
Probably one of the most relaxing and funniest times we had this past week was when we took the team to the Indiana community pool for a water aerobics class. They were put through a pretty intense water workout and we defiantly found out that the girls are much better on land then they are in water!
We are going to be spending the rest of this up-coming week training hard for our first two scrimmages. Those games are against Memphis and Valparaiso this Friday and Sunday, respectively. We would love to see you there.
Go Hoosiers!
