BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team concluded its first week of practice and begins work for the upcoming season and Sunday's scrimmage against Ball State. The squad, who is not lacking in team chemistry, had an eventful week of preseason preparations.
The team reported to Bloomington on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The fall campaign officially got underway on the 11th with testing followed by the first practice of the year that evening. For three straight days, the team held two practices a day with meetings or weightlifting sessions in between. The Hoosiers continue practice throughout this week and wrap up the preseason with a scrimmage against in-state rival Ball State at 3 p.m. in Mellencamp Pavilion.
"Preseason has been excellent," head coach Amy Robertson said. "There has not been one day that the team has subsided in effort. The focus has been awesome and the energy has been great."
Like in past years, the team's chemistry and unity will be one of its many strengths.
"I feel like this team has been together for a month and we've only been back for six days," Robertson said. "I think that it says something for us as a group and how we are going to do as a group this year."
So far the group that has stuck out the most to Robertson at practice are the freshmen.
"Right away the freshmen have really impressed me and they have acclimated themselves to the team really well," Robertson said. "Their performance on the field has been great and they have been contributing immediately. There are making us better which is awesome considering how many players we have returning."
"Overall, the team looks great and this is going to be such a good year for Indiana field hockey," Robertson said. "We are off to a great start."
