Freshman Jammie Kirlew just completed his first week of action in a Hoosier uniform. Kirlew has seen time at linebacker and with the defensive line, and turned in an impressive performance last week with a pair of fumble recoveries during 7-on-7 drills.
Entering week two, Kirlew is keeping an online journal on IUHOOSIERS.com of his first preseason camp. Below is his third entry after Wednesday morning's practice:
Today started off with team meetings after breakfast and stretching. For the first practice of the day, we suited all the way up and did individual work first. Today's individual work was cut shorter than in other days because we added something new at the end of practice. The drill is called red zone, and we did things that would actually happen in a game.
After the individual drills, we moved to inside run and then to the team. Today was a lot like yesterday, but we have to do it twice today.
I thought I looked decent. I think I had a better day yesterday. I worked really had on correcting yesterday's mistakes, but I think everyday you can learn something new and that's what I have do to keep improving.
Overall, the defense did well again today. We still have a lot of enthusiasm, but again I think yesterday was a better day all around. We need to pick it up and come out here for the second practice a lot stronger.
