Freshman Jammie Kirlew just completed his first week of action in a Hoosier uniform. Kirlew has seen time at linebacker and with the defensive line, and turned in an impressive performance last week with a pair of fumble recoveries during 7-on-7 drills.
Entering week two, Kirlew is keeping an online journal on IUHOOSIERS.com of his first preseason camp. Below is his fourth entry after Thursday's practice:
Today was another Plan B day, so there was only one practice today. We began the day with an early weightlifting session and some meetings. After meetings, we had lunch then taping and came out to practice and had another really impressive day. There are a lot of guys who have made some great improvements. We are really working hard everyday.
At practice, we did a lot of individual drills. We went a little bit lighter today because the scrimmage is Saturday, and we want to play on fresh legs for that. But we are still pressing and working hard, and we keep on learning. I did make a couple of key plays that made me stand out which were good, but I can't dwell on those. I have to keep coming out strong and keep pushing, because I still have lots to learn and a lot of room for improvement.
From individuals, we moved to inside run. The team looked good in that drill. We made a lot of improvements in that area from yesterday. Then we moved on to the team drill, and there was a lot of energy and some good plays out there today. Overall, I had a good day. There were assignments I know I missed, but every day is another day to get better.
Tomorrow is going to be another two-a-day and it's going to be rough, but we are going light because of the scrimmage.
