BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - As the Indiana Volleyball squad gears up for its season-opener against Indiana State in the University Gym Aug. 27 at 11 a.m., members of the team will update IUHOOSIERS.com on how training is going. The second player is senior right side/setter Rachel Gerling. She talks about the team taking some time off for a cookout.
After a couple of meetings in the morning, the whole team went out to Jeff and Vicki's house where we had a huge cookout. The coaches wanted to give us a day off so we could rest and spend some time together off the court. We had prepared tons of appetizers. Jeff grilled the hamburgers and chicken, while Matt worked in the fire pit to cook the vegetables. Vicki baked some amazing desserts. Katie and Matt's wife Nicole took on Eugene and Rachel in a couple of intense rounds of horseshoes. It was close, but Nicole threw the winning ringer to close out the game, 10-9.
Some of us spent some time relaxing in the shade, while Katie, Matt, Eugene, Dave and Jeff tried to teach Gabby the basics of golfing. But...that didn't go so well. Later, we broke out the marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate and made some mean s'mores over the fire. Thanks Jeff and Vicki, we had a really great time.
