-Journal Entry #1- So, being a senior is kind of a scary thing. Pretty soon I will have to enter the real world and get a real job!! For now, I'm enjoying my last season as a student athlete, and more importantly enjoying my time with the team!
To start off I will just fill you in on what we have been doing recently.
We arrived for preseason on August 9, where we had to go through the usual meetings, which I might add are very exciting! After all the meetings were done we finally were able to start practicing.
Can you think of any better way to start a season off than a fitness test? Yea I didn't think so! The fitness test went well, and it helped to get the running out of the way so we could focus on the real task at hand. For the last two weeks, we have been practicing two or three times a day. Even though it's been rough having two-a-days and sometimes three-a-days, everyone seems to be holding up.
It's been great getting back together with the team and playing again. Plus, we have some new players who are all great additions to our team.
Fortunately for us, this past weekend we had two exhibition games and had the chance to get on the field for some preseason action. On Friday, we played against Memphis. The game was a little unusual for us because we played three 30-minute halves, instead of the usual two 45-minute halves. The game went well. We won, 5-0, and got the chance to play in front of a home crowd and have a great start to the year. Nothing feels better than hearing home fans cheer.
On Sunday, we had our final exhibition match against Valparaiso. The match, however, was a little rough for us. It seemed like we just weren't connecting on passes in the first half. I think it was just a little Sunday-game jitters! Eventually, we picked up the pace and were able to put two goals into the back of the net to calm us down and seal the victory.
Overall, as a team we have been working really hard and I can't wait for the season to start this weekend so we can be rewarded for all of our efforts! Until next time, GO HOOSIERS.
