Hoosiers Hit the Road for Season Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team travels to New Hampshire and Northeastern to open up the 2005 fall campaign. The Hoosiers take on New Hampshire in Durham, N.C. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m., before traveling to Boston to face the Northeastern Huskies on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 2 p.m.
After a solid effort and 3-0 win over Ball State on Saturday, IU is confident and prepared for their upcoming opponents. Head coach Amy Robertson, who is in her sixth season at the helm of the Hoosiers, discussed the weekend's match-ups.
On the Hoosiers and the their preparation for the season opener:
"The team looks good. We have had steady progress, but there are certainly areas where we can improve and tighten up. Much of the preseason has involved overall organization of the team and going over the bigger elements of the game. The team has done a good job on taking in all that information. We have been concentrating on increasing our competitive level and demanding more from each other. Sometimes we are getting things done, but we are not working as a unit and that can catch up to you."
On New Hampshire:
"The fun thing about the first game of the year is that you just don't know. You can anticipate some things and take what you learned from last year and apply it, but you just can't be certain. We played New Hampshire last year on a neutral site when they were going through a down part of their season, but they have a strong line-up returning this year, and I know they are really hungry this year. I think it's going to be a great match-up and a great game for both of us."
On Northeastern:
"We have never played Northeastern, so it is always exciting to play someone new. They had a few significant losses and quite a few talented freshmen coming in so you really can't tell what kind of team they are going to have out there. We have a good idea about their style of play, but it will be a good time to focus on ourselves and how we are going to achieve success down the road."
On the keys to being successful this weekend:
"We have to create more dangerous scoring options and keep possession in our attacking third. I think we are doing a good job distributing in the backfield into the midfield, but it's just that last step of finding our space and poise in the attack we need to solidify. We need to create more goals and more opportunities to score for ourselves."
