Hoosiers Remain Perfect In Spring

ST. LOUIS. - The Indiana women's soccer team continued its perfect spring season with a 1-0 victory over St. Louis at Robert R. Hermann Stadium this past Sunday, April 3.
"We looked very strong against a good St. Louis team," said head coach Mick Lyon. "The first 30 minutes, we didn't change at all. We were very good in the back. We were a little tight at midfield, but as the game progressed, good things started to happen."
Sophomore Stacey Van Boxmeer was stellar at goal again for the Hoosiers, who moved to 5-0 in the spring. Van Boxmeer played roughly 65 minutes and did not allow a goal for the fourth straight spring contest. Freshman Meghan Reinhardt played the remaining 25 minutes in the pipes, keeping the Billikens off the board.
"We need her to continue to train and play at the highest level possible," said Lyon. "She needs to play every game at IU like she is playing with her national team and so far her performances have been very good."
Freshman Priya Kirpaloni found the nets for the only Hoosier goal. Kirpaloni took a corner kick from junior Robin Barker for her second goal of the spring. Kirpaloni had a chance to put IU ahead by two. Late in the game, she was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick, but was unable to convert the PK attempt.
"She is not getting a lot of playing time since she is still recovering from an off- season injury," said Lyon. " She is getting a lot of results, though, when she is on the field and that is very encouraging to see."
Indiana returns to action this Sunday, April 10, when the Cream and Crimson host the IU Outdoor Round Robin at Armstrong Stadium and practice field. Indiana opens the tournament with a 10 a.m., match-up with Southern Indiana. The Hoosiers will also take on Cincinnati at 2 p.m., and Valparaiso at 4 p.m. Other matches that day include the Heat club team facing IUPUI at 10 a.m., IUPUI squaring off against Southern Indiana at noon, Valparaiso taking on Cincinnati also at noon and the Heat versus Valparaiso at 2 p.m.
