LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The Indiana women's soccer team improved to 4-0 in the spring with a 3-0 victory over Louisville on Friday night at Cardinal Park.
"We won, which is fun, but we also got a lot of people in, especially some people who didn't get a lot of time in the fall," said assistant coach Ian Rickerby. "This is a great time for those individuals to play and show us what they can do. We have a few injuries with our defenders, but Robin (Barker) and Heather (Haney) both played well at the fullback position."
Freshman Kristin Radcliffe connected on IU's first two goals. The first one came on a feed from sophomore Ali Brown. Radcliffe then gave the Cream and Crimson a 2-0 lead with a header off a pass from junior Kristen Zmijewski. The Wheaton, Ill., native now has three goals through the first four spring games.
"She is definitely someone that we brought in her to score goals," said assistant coach Ian Rickerby. "We are challenging her to score more and so far she is having a great spring."
Indiana's third goal came from freshman Priya Kirpaloni. She was the recipient of Brown's corner kick and left-footed it through the pipes.
"She is really playing well," said Rickerby. "She was supposed to be a walk-on in the fall, but an injury set her back. She recovered and came to us in November and said she wanted to play and we gave her the chance."
Sophomore Stacey Van Boxmeer and freshman Megan Reinhardt combined for the shutout. Van Boxmeer logged about 60 minutes of game action, while Reinhardt received the other 30.
The Hoosiers return to action next Sunday, April 3, with a noon contest at St. Louis University.
