HUDDLE WITH HEP
The Terry Hoeppner Era of Indiana Football officially gets underway one week from today - Sept. 2 - at Central Michigan (7:30 p.m. EDT, ESPNU). Here are some fun facts surrounding Hoeppner's debut and the Hoosiers' 2005 season opener:
NEW ERA, FAMILIAR TERRITORY
Terry Hoeppner is making his Indiana head coaching debut in familiar territory - Kelly-Shorts Stadium. As a head coach, Hoeppner is 1-0 against the Chippewas after Miami's 24-16 victory in Mount Pleasant on Sept. 25, 1999. As a Miami assistant coach, Hoeppner helped the RedHawks win four of their last five games against CMU.
ROAD WARRIORS
Terry Hoeppner-coached teams have enjoyed considerable success in road games, posting a 26-17 ledger as the visiting team, including 16-7 since 2002. Furthermore, Hoeppner-led squads are 17-7 when they play in other Mid-American Conference stadiums. They also led the nation in 2003 road victories (eight) and have not had a losing road record since 2001.
BY THE NUMBERS
Not only does Terry Hoeppner rank among the top 10 active coaches in the nation for winning percentage, but his teams:
have never been shut out.
are 28-7 when they lead at the end of the first quarter.
are 43-3 when they lead at the end of the third quarter.
are 18-1 since 2003 when they score first.
