Bloomington, Ind. - Louis Twigg has been named as the Indiana men's basketball administrative assistant, head coach Mike Davis announced. Twigg comes to Indiana with over seven years of Division I experience.
"We are excited and thrilled to have Louis as a member of the IU family," Davis said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge about the game having worked under some of the best coaches in the game."
Twigg will oversee all the editing for game and practice video, as well as game tape exchange. He will also be coordinating all aspects of the summer camp program, official and unofficial visits by recruits and assisting with NCAA and Big Ten compliance, among other duties.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of a program with such great basketball tradition," Twigg said. "My wife and I can't thank Coach Davis enough for this opportunity to work and live in a great community."
Prior to accepting the post at IU, Twigg served as the Director of Basketball Operations at La Salle University from 2003-2005. Twigg coordinated all aspects of the Explorers' travel. He also assisted with scheduling film exchange.
Twigg maintained the same job and duties for one season at the College of Charleston before heading to La Salle. While at Charleston, he was a part of the team that finished with a 25-8 overall record.
He came to Charleston from Temple University where he worked for two seasons under legendary head coach John Chaney. With the Owls for two seasons, Twigg obtained his degree, while also serving as the video coordinator and undergraduate assistant coach. His responsibilities included scouting opponents, charting stats during the game and coordinating film exchange.
Additionally, Twigg was also the head manager for the University of Maryland from 1997-99. While with the Terrapins, he assisted head coach Gary Williams with basketball camps, as well as other day-to-day operations.
Twigg has seen success at every school he has worked for, including a record of 28-6 and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance with Maryland in 1999. Combined, Twigg has assisted teams to an overall record of 137-91 (.601) during his coaching tenure.
He looks to have the same success at IU as the Hoosiers return 10 players, including four starters, from last year's team. Leading the list of returnees is 6-9 power forward D.J. White, who was named the 2005 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, as well as a freshman All-American. White is the team's leading returning scorer (13.3 ppg), rebounder (4.9 rpg) and shot-blocker (2.2 bpg).
In fact, the Hoosiers return four of their top five scorers from last season. Big Ten All-Freshman honoree Robert Vaden returns after averaging 10.2 points and 4.3 boards, while also leading the team in steals per contest (1.55). Vaden and White were the only two players to have started all 29 contests a year ago. Senior Marshall Strickland (7.4 ppg) and A.J. Ratliff (5.8 ppg) each made significant contributions last season. Strickland led IU in assists (3.4 apg) and Ratliff led the Hoosiers in three-point percentage (.486) last season.
IU also welcomes one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, led by senior transfer Marco Killingsworth. Killingsworth, a two-time All-SEC peformer at Auburn, is coming off the Big Ten Foreign Tour where he led all players with 15.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest. Fellow transfer Lewis Monroe will also look to duplicate his performance while at Auburn where he was considered one of the best point guards in the conference. Junior college transfer Earl Calloway and true freshmen Joey Shaw and Ben Allen will also look to make immediate impacts during the upcoming campaign.
Twigg received a degree in Sport and Recreation from Temple University in 2002. He is married to the former Tara Greene and the couple resides in Bloomington.
