Overton Fires 68 at Buick Championship

CROMWELL, Conn. - Competing in his first tournament as a professional, former two-time Indiana men's golf All-American Jeff Overton carded a 2-under-par 68 at the PGA Tour's Buick Championship on Friday afternoon. The championship is being held at the TPC at River Highlands.
After firing a 77 in the opening round on Thursday, Overton responded with his 68 in round two. The Evansville, Ind., native recorded three birdies and one bogey on the day, and although he missed the cut, he showed he is more than capable of playing on the Tour.
"We are proud of the way Jeff came back after a difficult opening round," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "After struggling early, he could have packed it in, but Jeff showed a lot of heart and character. As he did in college, Jeff will get better and better with each professional tournament he plays in."
Overton became the second ex-Hoosier to play on the PGA Tour this season, joining 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel (1988-91). Micheel has played in 22 events this season with his best finish a tie for seventh at the Cialis Western Open (June 30-July 3).
