Linebacker Kyle Killion enters his last preseason camp as a Hoosier. In 2004, Killion was a key component of IU's defense, recording 107 tackles with 16.5 of those for loss. Killion also grabbed a pair of interceptions and five sacks on the season.
This year, Killion moves back to his natural outside linebacker position after John Pannozzo's move to middle linebacker.
The second team All-Big Ten selection is keeping an online journal on IUHOOSIERS.com of his fourth and final preseason camp. Below is his second entry after Tuesday's practice:
Today, like yesterday, went well. A lot of good things happened at practice today. I think everyone walked away today feeling good.
I began the day by getting up at 6:30, ate and got some treatment. I got going early and made sure I stretched because it was going to be a long day. I went to class. I have a big final on Thursday. It should be pretty tough, so I will be studying for that tonight. It's tough having camp and school at the same time, but I've been dealing with balancing those two things for a couple of years now, and I'm sure I can get through it and come out on top.
After class I got taped up, got dressed and went to meetings. So far the meetings are going great. We are working on getting the basics and our philosophies down. We have to get those things established so everyone is on the same page, and we all know what we are trying to accomplish each day.
After meetings we hit the field for another great practice. Today was fun. The offense threw a lot more stuff at us today. We need to get back and catch up on that so we are ready for what they bring tomorrow. I made a few mistakes today, but I know what went wrong and how to correct it, and that's what camp is about. My goal is always to capitalize on the areas where I made mistakes the first time.
Seven-on-seven went well again today, especially for the defense. The defense was flying around and making big plays. As a whole, the defense took a huge step forward this practice. The defense came out more aggressive today, and it was obvious in the 7-on-7s. I was impressed with the secondary today. They had a couple of pass break-ups. The defense was putting more pressure and getting to the quarterback a lot faster.
The shells go on tomorrow, and we are excited for that. There will be a lot of juice tomorrow because we can get after it a little more. You are going to see a lot more intensity. The coaches were pretty pleased, and it's obvious we are making strides. Hopefully tomorrow we can stay up and have another great practice.
