BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Seniors Kristen Zmijewski, midfielder, and defender Courtney O'Bryan, both garnered all-tournament honors this weekend as the Hoosiers finish 1-1 at the inaugural Hoosier Classic. The two Indiana women's soccer players join nine other participants of the Classic, with No. 18 Marquette garnering the tournament title, four all-tournament selections, and the tournament MVP.
The No. 18 Golden Eagles finished with a perfect 2-0 record, defeating Xavier (2-1, OT) in the tournament's opening match, followed by a 2-1 overtime victory over Miami on Sunday, Sept. 11, to close out the title. The Miami Hurricanes, 1-1 on the weekend, finish in second defeating Indiana on Friday, Sept. 9, before dropping its match against Marquette on Sunday. Indiana and Xavier (0-2) round out the team finishes.
The All-tournament team, as chosen by each participating team's head coach, features four players and the MVP from the winning team, followed by three honorees from the runner up and two from the final two teams.
Making the inaugural Hoosier Classic All-Tournament team are senior midfielder Heather Goranson (MVP, Marquette), senior forward Julie Thompson (Marquette), junior midfielder Michelle Pitzl (Marquette), junior midfielder Meghan Connelly (Marquette), sophomore goalkeeper Lauren McAdam (Miami), freshman forward Paulelette Ricks-Chambers (Miami), junior midfielder Kristen Chapman (Miami), Zmijewski, O'Bryan, senior Angie Scarlato (Xavier) and freshman midfielder Christine Chuck (Xavier).
