Peterson Earns National Team of the Week Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior forward Jacob Peterson was named to a pair of national teams of the week on Monday. The Portage, Mich., native led the two-time defending national champion and No. 1 Indiana men's soccer team to a 1-0-1 mark at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament, scoring four of the Hoosiers' six goals in the two contests. He was named to the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer National Teams of the Week.
Peterson opened the tournament in South Bend, Ind., scoring the game-tying goal in the early stages of the second half against Saint Louis on Friday, Sept. 9. The U.S. Under-20 National team player then recorded his second career hat trick on Sunday, Sept. 11. Against Boston University, Peterson notched the first three goals of the match in leading the Hoosiers to a 5-0 victory.
Last season, Peterson was named to a national team of the week on a pair of occasions. He was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Sept. 6 following his Offensive MVP performance at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. He also earned Soccer America National Team of the Week honors after he scored his first career hat trick against Michigan State on Sept. 26.
The top-ranked Hoosiers will travel to Corvalis, Ore., for the Oregon State Diadora Classic. IU will face Cal State-Northridge on Friday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. PT. Indiana will close out the classic against host Oregon State on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m. PT. It will be the first meeting between Cal State-Northridge and Indiana. Last season, the Hoosiers defeated Oregon State, 3-1, to win the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.
