Exner Earns Big Ten Honor

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Exner was named Defensive Big Ten Player of the Week for Sept. 5-11 as announced on Monday by the Big Ten Conference.
Exner, who has recorded an impressive 22 saves in 2005, notched seven more in Friday's win 6-0 win over Pacific. The victory marks Exner's first shutout of the season and her career.
Exner and the stifling Hoosier defense held the Tigers to only seven shots. Of Pacific's seven shots, all of them were on goal and all were saved by the 5-11 goalkeeper.
"Haley has been doing a tremendous job for us this season," head coach Amy Robertson said. "She has been playing like she's been a starter for several years. She has stepped in right where Katie Kanara left off. She had a great game against Pacific, and we expect her to keep up the great job."
The award is the first in Exner's career and the first defensive honor for Indiana. Junior Lydia Schrott was named Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 2.
