Barker Named IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award. For the week ending Sept. 11, senior women's soccer player Robin Barker earned the second honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"This award is fantastic," Indiana head women's soccer coach Mick Lyon said. "She couldn't be more deserving. Robin is the epitome of a true IU athlete and student by excelling both on the field and in the classroom."
A member of the IU Nursing program, Barker recently began her clinical work at Bloomington Hospital. The ultra-competitive degree is difficult for most students, much less an active student-athlete. Amazingly, Barker is en route to successfully completing her on-the-job training in the midst of the women's soccer season.
"Robin is an exceptional student-athlete," academic advisor Jen Brand said. "Being a Nursing student here at IU is an incredibly challenging task, and balancing clinical rotations with the demands of the women's soccer training and travel schedule speaks to the type of dedicated young woman that she is. Robin will be one of the only IU athletes ever to complete an undergraduate degree in Nursing here in Bloomington. She sets a shining example of the unlimited potential that our student-athletes can reach here at IU."
