IU to Take on a Pair of MAC Opponents

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 12 Indiana field hockey team continues its five-game home stand with two Mid-American Conference opponents in Ohio University and Missouri State University. Currently, Ohio is 1-4 and as of Sept. 13, the Bears are 0-4.
In the home opener on Friday, Sept. 9, IU trounced Pacific 6-0. In the win over the Tigers, the Hoosiers and goalkeeper Haley Exner recorded the team's second shutout of 2005. The shutout victory for the Hoosiers improved its record to 4-1.
In the dominant IU win, senior Kayla Bashore scored the season and program's second hat trick with three goals. Senior Mallory Reabold netted two scores and junior Lydia Schrott contributed one in the win.
From start to finish the Hoosiers were strong on both sides of the ball. Holding the Tigers to only seven shots, sophomore goalkeeper Haley Exner saved all seven in the team's second shutout of the season.
Last week was filled with honors for the Hoosiers as Bashore earned the Indiana Athletics Athlete of the Week and Exner was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week selection.
Indiana Earns Ranking
In the first rankings of 2005, the Hoosiers earned a 12th place rank in the STX/NFHCA poll. This is the highest any team in the program has been ranked. Of the 20 ranked teams, IU faced or will face eight of them.
Indiana was also ranked No. 11 by womensfieldhockey.com.
Hoosiers At Top of Big Ten
The Indiana team can be found at or near the top in several categories in Big Ten standings.
As of Sept. 12, Indiana is tied for first in shutouts with Michigan State. Each team has tallied two shutouts this season. Indiana also leads the Big Ten in assists with 13.
Individually, Lydia Schrott still leads the Big Ten in goals with five and Lesley Wiler leads the league in assists with four.
A total of eight Hoosiers (Bashore, Brown, Exner, Meeuwsen, Miller, O'Connell, Oyler, Schrott and Wiler) can be found in this week's individual Big Ten rankings.
Currently, IU shares second place in the Big Ten with Northwestern and Penn State.
Bashore, Exner Earn Honors
Senior midfielder Kayla Bashore and sophomore goalkeeper Haley Exner earned honors for their performances against Pacific on Sept. 9.
Bashore earned Indiana Athletics Athlete of the Week for her hat trick performance and Exner earned the Defensive Big Ten Player Week for her seven saves against Pacific.
Exner is the second Hoosier this year to earn a Big Ten Player of the Week honor.
Reabold's Bold Performance
Senior Mallory Reabold had one of the best games in her career against Pacific on Sept. 9. Rabold tallied her first and second goals of the season against the Tigers and was credited with one assist in fellow senior Kayla Bashore's second goal of the game.
Reabold's performance against Pacific raises her career goal total to seven.
