Peterson Named Chicagolandsoccernews.com Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the second straight week, an Indiana men's soccer player was named Chicagolandsoccernews.com Player of the Week, this time it was junior forward Jacob Peterson. The Portage, Mich., native had a break tournament at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in South Bend, Ind., scoring four goals in two games, including his second career hat trick. Senior midfielder Brian Plotkin earned the website's player of the week on Sept. 7.
Peterson notched his second career hat trick in a 5-0 victory over Boston University. The U.S. Under-20 National player scored the first three tallies of the match with a pair coming in the first half. He became the 10th Hoosier to have multiple hat tricks during his career. In the opener of the tournament, Peterson scored a second half goal to even the match against Saint Louis and forge a 1-1 tie with the Billikens. For the year, he leads the Hoosiers with four markers. The first team All-Big Ten selection from a season ago also led IU in scoring during the 2004 campaign with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists.
The national awards have been rolling in for Peterson following his performance at the Notre Dame Tournament. He garnered all-tournament team honors and along with being named to the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer National Teams of the Week.
The two-time defending national champions and No. 1 ranked Indiana men's soccer team will take part in the Oregon State Diadora Classic, starting Friday, Sept. 16. IU (3-0-1) will open against No. 25 (NSCAA) Cal State-Northridge (3-0-1) at 1 p.m. PT on Friday before facing the host Beavers (1-2-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT. The match against Cal State-Northridge will be the first between the two schools, while the Hoosiers picked up a 3-1 victory over Oregon State last season at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington.
