Valentin, Puerto Rico Lose Tough Game to Cuba

HATO MAYOR, Dominican Republic-- Indiana guard Cyndi Valentin and the Puerto Rican National team lost a tough game to Cuba, 84-54 on Friday in the third day of the FIBA Americas Championships. With the win, Cuba secured a place in the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women in Brazil as they keep a 3-0 record with two days left in the Dominican Republic. Valentin scored five points, grabbed two rebounds and recorded one steal and one assist in the loss.
Cuba jumped out to a 47-28 at the half and took control the rest of the game. The Cubans also dominated underneath, as they outrebounded Puerto Rico, 46-24.
Argentina, Puerto Rico and Canada are now tied in third place with a 1-2 record (4 points) as they fight for the two remaining places in the Americas. Argentina takes on Cuba and Canada faces Puerto Rico as they do their best to qualify for the FIBA World Championships.
