Chicago, Ill. - The Indiana softball team had a successful outing this weekend at the Chicagoland Fall Classic, posting a 3-1-1 record. The Hoosiers recorded victories against Lewis (1-0), Illinois-Chicago (1-0) and Olivet Nazarene (3-1), while falling to DePaul (6-1). IU finished in a 0-0 tie against Bradley, as the game fell under time constraints.
The Hoosiers' pitching unit of seniors Mariangee Bogado and Megan Roark and freshman Aubrey Hayes put on a show in the circle, combining for 45 strikeouts over the weekend.
Bogado highlighted the Hoosier circle with 17 strikeouts against Bradley en route to the 0-0 tie at the end of the sixth inning. The Mariara, Venezuela, native had 23 overall strikeouts in 12 innings.
Hayes, in her Hoosier debut, fanned 13 batters during her seven innings of action, while Roark struck out nine to complete the Hoosier pitching notables.
Freshman Stephanie Pellerito made her first appearance as a Hoosier in outstanding fashion, scoring the game-winner against Lewis off a RBI double. The international tiebreaker rule sent a Hoosier runner to second in the eighth inning to setup Pellerito's RBI.
Sophomore Rachel Terry notched a successful weekend at bat, going 1-3 against Bradley and blasting an in-park homer against Olivet Nazarene in the fourth to score the Hoosiers' first run in the 3-1 victory.
Junior Tory Yamaguchi went 1-3 against Bradley and DePaul, posting a triple against DePaul to setup sophomore Anna Olson for the RBI at the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman Sarah Padove rounds out the Hoosier accolades with a 2-3 performance against DePaul, while sophomores Rachel Carlson and Jennilee Huddleston each recorded 1-3 performances at bat against the Blue Demons.
The Hoosiers continue their fall schedule this weekend at the Indiana State tournament Sept. 25, against Eastern Illinois, Indiana State and Parkland College.
