Hoosiers Continue Four-Game Road Trip with Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. - The Indiana field hockey team squares off against Appalachian State tonight at 6 p.m., in Boone, N.C. The Hoosiers are coming off two impressive road wins. IU downed New Hampshire and Northeastern last weekend and looks to continue that streak of success tonight. The last time Indiana opened the season with two straight wins was in 2003.
Appalachian State is currently 1-1 in 2005. The Mountaineers lost in overtime to Colgate before narrowly escaping Siena their last time out. ASU was 6-14 last year under head coach Mandy Latz.
The Hoosiers have faced Appalachian State only once. The Sept. 11, 2004 game was played in Bloomington where IU posted a 4-0 shutout over the Mountaineers. Junior Morgan Miller and seniors Nikki Orciuch, Lesley Wiler and Mallory Reabold all tallied scores in the Hoosier win.
"App. State is an important game for us," senior captain Lesley Wiler said. "We can't overlook them even though we play Wake Forest on Sunday. We need to use this game as preparation for Wake, and we need to come out of it feeling good."
Up next for the Hoosiers is defending national champion, Wake Forest. Indiana takes on the Demon Deacons Sunday at 1 p.m., in Winston-Salem, N.C.
