Incarnato Transfers to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Chauncey Incarnato (pronounced in-car-NAY-toh), a 6-5, 275-pound sophomore offensive tackle, has transferred from Notre Dame to Indiana University, IU head coach Terry Hoeppner announced today. Incarnato is enrolled at IU, will practice with the Hoosiers this fall and will have three years of eligibility, starting in the fall of 2006.
Incarnato earned Associated Press Division III All-Ohio special mention honors as a senior at Dover (Ohio) High School in 2003, as he did not allow a sack for a team that went 10-1 and averaged nearly 38 points per game. Incarnato was a three-year letterwinner as a two-way starter at left offensive tackle and nose guard, recording 98 total tackles (15 for loss) and five quarterback sacks on defense while setting the school single-game, single-season and career records for pancake blocks by an offensive lineman. He participated in the Big 33 All-Star Game following his senior season, and he also competed in wrestling and track at Dover.
When he was the head coach at Miami (Ohio), Hoeppner and his staff recruited Incarnato, and they are excited to have the highly-touted lineman in Bloomington.
"We have known Chauncey since he was a junior in high school, and he is a tremendous addition to our program," Hoeppner said. "He is an outstanding football player, and more importantly, a quality student and person. Not only does he have the potential to anchor our offensive line in the future, but he will play a valuable role in our practice preparation this season."
Just as Hoeppner and his staff have been recruiting Incarnato, Incarnato has had his eye on the Hoosiers.
"Indiana is just the best fit for me. I was always interested in IU in high school, but they did not start recruiting me until late in the process. However, when I decided to transfer, I sent releases to about 20 different schools, and IU showed immediate interest," Incarnato said. "I had about 14 scholarship offers based on the releases that were sent out, and I narrowed it down to Indiana, Ohio State and Maryland. I really like Coach Hoeppner and (offensive line/running game coordinator) Coach (Bobby) Johnson. I feel that they would do the best for me as a player and as a person. The Indiana program is on the rise, Coach Hoeppner and his staff have a vision to make it one of the best in the nation, and I want to be a part of that."
This marks the second time in four years that a player has transferred from Notre Dame to Indiana. Quarterback Matt LoVecchio transferred to IU in 2002 and was a two-year starter in 2003 and 2004.
