Hoosiers Nab Higher Ranking

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the second week in a row, the Indiana field hockey team earned a top-20 ranking as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Tuesday.
After a pair of convincing wins over Ohio University and Missouri State last weekend, the former No. 12th ranked Hoosier are now one spot closer to cracking the program's first top-10 ranking. The No. 11 ranking replaces last week's No. 12 ranking as the highest in program history.
"I'm happy with the ranking," head coach Amy Robertson said. "We are consistent and are winning games. It's important for us to focus on one game at a time and not get carried away with rankings, but we are excited to be ranked. I feel we are right where we should be."
The No. 11 Hoosiers secured their week's ranking with a 4-1 win over Ohio on Saturday in Bloomington. Led by junior Lydia Schrott's two goals, IU outshot the Bears 15-6. Also scoring for the Hoosiers were senior Nikki Orciuch off an assist from fellow senior Lesley Wiler and junior Morgan Miller scoring off a penalty corner shot at the game's end.
The Hoosiers took the field the following day against Missouri State, and the results were much of the same. The 3-0 win marked the team's third shutout of the season, and Indiana took a single-game high 39 shots. Kate O'Connell scored her first goal of the season off an assist from freshman Katie Kiper. Seniors Mallory Reabold and Wiler added two more scores in the second half to secure the win.
The No. 11 Hoosiers are back in action this weekend against No. 6 Michigan State on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. against Lindenwood in Mellencamp Pavilion.
